Hello friends!

Welcome to Hayley’s Hippie Horticulture!

My name is Hayley and I’m in the pursuit of plants! From the ripe old age of 7, I had decided I was going to be a zookeeper, but what took me longer to realize, is that plants are essential in the care for exotic animals. What do they eat? Plants! What do they sleep in? Plants! What do they poo in? You guessed it- Plants! So I’m here to study botany in the hopes that I can use plants to enrich the lives of the animals I hope to care for in the future. I encourage you to take this flower-powered journey with me as we see the magnificent shrubs, trees, and flowers the greatest state in the US has to offer.  (Ohio, for those who didn’t know).

Be-leaf me, It’s going to be great!

Above, I have a picture of my coat of arms to tell you a little more about me. As you may have noticed, I have everything inside the outline of a hummingbird. Before I was a plant-er (?), I was a birder! I spent the whole last year learning the amazing world of birds, and even got accepted as an intern for the Houston Zoos’ Bird Department, before COVID killed that dream… *sigh*. The paw print inside the fish inside the tree represents my major, Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife, which, 1: is a real major, and 2: I’m absolutely in LOVE with! In the tail of the humming bird are the outline of states that represents where I live. While I grew up in Ohio, I have spent the last 5 years in Texas, before returning back to Ohio for college. Finally, for my quote, I picked a quote from the man who inspired me to pursue this career path in the first place. The man, the myth, the legend; Steve Irwin! Crikey!

I hope that you will find this page useful… or amusing, as we turn this bird-nerd into a botan-nerd (?)
